ARC is Planning for the Future!
ARC is developing Mobility 2055, metro Atlanta's long-range blueprint to guide transportation investments through 2055.
Mobility 2055 will shape how federal and state funding is invested across metro Atlanta to improve roads, transit, and active transportation to address growth, improve mobility, and strengthen the economy. This major update of the Atlanta Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) will include the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), the region's short-term list of priority transportation projects that are expected to use federal funding over the next four years.
As the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Atlanta region, ARC coordinates the development of the MTP in close collaboration with the state of Georgia, 19 counties, the region's transit agencies, the City of Atlanta, and dozens of smaller cities and nonprofit organizations.

Mobility 2055 plays a vital role in shaping how people and goods move throughout metro Atlanta. As the region continues to grow, thoughtful long-term planning is essential to reduce congestion, improve safety, and expand transportation options.

Ultimately, Mobility 2055 will ensure that transportation decisions made today will meet the needs of tomorrow’s residents, businesses, and visitors.
Mobility 2055 will closely align with the ARC’s broader planning efforts to ensure a coordinated, forward-looking approach to growth and infrastructure. It works in tandem with key regional initiatives, including the Regional Development Plan, the (Walk, Bike, Thrive!), the Regional Freight Mobility Plan, the Metro Atlanta Climate Action Plan, and many more, to create a more connected, sustainable, and resilient region.
By integrating these efforts, Mobility 2055 will support improved air quality for the region through initiatives such as: expanding multimodal transportation options, guiding future land use, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and advancing climate and environmental goals. This alignment ensures that transportation investments not only improve mobility, but also reinforce the region’s long-term vision for livability, health, and economic prosperity.
Public engagement is a critical component of developing Mobility 2055, ensuring that the plan reflects the needs, priorities, and values of the region’s residents and stakeholders. Engagement will occur in four key phases throughout the planning process:
May – September 2026
Introduces the MTP process and gathers input on current transportation challenges, needs, and opportunities across the region.
October 2026 – February 2027
Engages the public in exploring different future scenarios and understanding how various investment strategies could impact mobility, communities, and the environment.
March – September 2027
Presents proposed projects and strategies, providing opportunities for stakeholders to review and share feedback to help refine the plan.
October 2027 – February 2028
Shares the near-final plan and confirms that it reflects community input, ensuring transparency and accountability before adoption.
Through each phase, the MTP emphasizes inclusive and accessible engagement to capture diverse perspectives and build a shared vision for the region’s transportation future.
Mobility 2055 will be presented to the TAQC and ARC Board in early 2028 for adoption. Over the next several months, the project team will be working on various tasks and engaging with diverse stakeholders on this major MTP update!
