ARC developed a regional Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) in collaboration with local governments and other stakeholders. The plan was submitted to EPA on March 1, 2024. The PCAP made communities in metro Atlanta eligible to apply for federal competitive implementation funds to put the plan into action through steps such as fleet electrification, solar installations, and energy efficiency retrofits.
In the next phase of the planning grant program, ARC developed a comprehensive Metro Atlanta Climate Action Plan (MACAP) that continued the work started during the PCAP planning process. The MACAP is intended to serve as a roadmap to create a sustainable and resilient future for all, while also highlighting strategic initiatives to transition to net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. Stakeholder participation and input into the plan was key as ARC identified the most impactful climate actions, the potential impacts on communities, as well as the benefits to the region’s workforce and economy.
