The Atlanta Region’s Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) is developed annually and documents metropolitan transportation planning activities performed with federal, state and local transportation funds in the Atlanta region. The UPWP is developed in cooperation with the State, local governments, and public transportation operators and includes a discussion of planning priorities facing the metropolitan planning area.
The current 2026 UPWP was advanced by ARC’s Transportation Coordinating Committee on November 7, 2025, with approval by the ARC Board occurring on November 12, 2025. The document received final approval from USDOT on November 17, 2025.

ARC is currently inviting the general public and transportation planning agency partners to review and comment on revisions being considered to the 2026 UPWP. These include adding a transit on-board survey to be managed by ARC, six planning studies to be undertaken by the ATL Authority, and seven safety plans to be developed by local governments under the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All program. The changes are reflected in a highlighted mark-up of the current 2026 UPWP. Comments are being accepted through February 26, 2026 and should be directed to [email protected].
