The Regional Clean Electricity Plan for Local Governments

ARC is working with local governments across the 11-county metropolitan area to develop a clean energy roadmap that aims to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.

The Regional Clean Electricity Plan for Local Governments (RCEP) will identify energy efficiency, energy management, and on-site generation opportunities for local government buildings and operations across the 11-county metropolitan region. The expected outcome of this project is the creation of an energy roadmap for local governments that will help align related city and county efforts with funding opportunities. The plan is funded by the Department of Energy and is expected to be completed by Spring 2027.

As part of the project, ARC will host a series of workshops to provide a snapshot of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects and opportunities across the region. The workshops will also provide strategies and a guide for successful implementation within a variety of city and county contexts. Participation and input by local government staff during these workshops is key to the development of useful recommendations. The list of workshops below will be updated with dates. Workshops are intended only for local government staff.

Upcoming Clean Energy Workshops

  1. Workshop 2: Renewable Energy Landscape in Georgia – Clayton County
  2. Workshop 3: Planning Toward Implementation – Dekalb County
  3. Workshop 4: Designing Clean Energy Initiatives – Cobb County
  4. Workshop 5: Designing Clean Energy Initiatives – Gwinnett County

Prior Clean Energy Workshops

  1. Workshop 1 (March 25th): Renewable Energy Snapshot – Rockdale County

During the RCEP planning process, ARC and contracted partners are collecting baseline data on government run buildings (such as fire stations, administrative offices, parks and recreation, educational facilities) and vehicle fleets (such as school buses and public safety). Local government staff can contribute to the Regional Clean Electricity Plan for Local Governments, by attending the stakeholder workshops, and/or submitting building or fleet data, which will inform the final clean electricity roadmap.
