National Ambient Air Quality Standards [NAAQS]

Required by the Clean Air Act, the EPA sets National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS, or maximum amounts of pollutants in the air, for pollutants that are common in outdoor air, considered harmful to public health and the environment, and that come from numerous and diverse sources.
