ACA Objectives:
- to advise and submit recommendations to the ARC Board and staff on all matters relating to the development, administration and operations conducted under the Area Plan on Aging;
- to stimulate community interest in problems of older persons;
- to promote awareness among the public of federal, state, and regional resources available for older persons; and
- to cooperate with and assist municipalities, educational institutions, and private enterprises within the Region in the development of programs and policies for older persons.
ACA Membership
The membership shall consist of an appropriate balance of older individuals who are participants or who are eligible to participate in programs funded by the Older Americans Act, family caregivers of such individuals, representatives of older individuals, service providers, representatives of the business community, local elected officials, and the general public. Membership will be a balance of residents of regional counties, racial/ethnic groups, and other key constituencies. Relevant knowledge areas and experience that are sought include, but are not limited to: elder justice, health care, community engagement, philanthropy, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, age friendly communities, and caregiving. Employees of current ARC grantees may not serve as members.
In addition to public members, the ACA consists of several ARC Board members, who are also appointed by the ARC Board Chairman.
Fifty-one percent of the total membership must be 60 years of age or older and all members should reside or work in the ARC’s Area Agency on Aging service area, which includes the following counties: Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, and Rockdale.
