Registration Now Open for ARC’s Community Planning Academy

Three-Part Course Provides Training for Planning Officials

The Atlanta Regional Commission announced today that registration is now open for the Community Planning Academy’s Spring 2023 course, Training for Planning Officials.

The three-day course will provide knowledge, resources, and tools to help local planning commission members and others involved in the planning process make effective decisions that shape their communities. Participants will learn to create and implement comprehensive, equitable plans for individual communities and use interactive modules learn how to incorporate best planning practices into their own communities.

The Spring 2023 training is a three-part series taking place on the following dates. All sessions are required as they build on one another sequentially. Registration for the Training for Planning Officials will close on March 10, 2023.

The Spring 2023 schedule:

  • Session 1: Friday, March 24 – In-Person at ARC (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • Session 2: Friday, April 21 – In-Person at TBD Location (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • Session 3: Friday, May 12 – In-Person at ARC (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

The training course is being offered by ARC through its Community Planning Academy (CPA), which offers high-quality, cost-effective training to help planners and decision-makers engage with stakeholders and lead their communities.

“Community planning is one of the most important functions a local government has, but planning is only as strong as the people who are charged with leading these efforts,” said Samyukth Shenbaga, Managing Director of ARC’s Community Development Department. “ARC’s Community Planning Academy plays a critical role by investing in our region’s planners, so they are able to make informed decisions that help lead their communities forward.”

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is the official planning agency for the 11-county Atlanta Region, including Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties as well as the City of Atlanta and 75 other cities. The Atlanta Regional Commission serves as a catalyst for regional progress by focusing leadership, attention and planning resources on key regional issues.
