See Updates to Chattahoochee River Plan and Help Shape its Future

Community members gather at a public forum to learn about and weigh in on the Chattahoochee River plan.

Residents will get another chance to weigh in on proposed plans now taking shape to reimagine a 100-mile public realm along the Chattahoochee River, while hearing about updates on significant progress that’s been made.

On Nov. 2, the Chattahoochee Working Group will offer a free public forum at C.T. Martin Natatorium and Recreation Center in Atlanta from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why a Redesign?

While parts of the river are lined with parks and paths, access remains limited in many areas. That’s why a regional effort called the Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Study launched in October 2018.

The study is looking at a 100-mile stretch of the river, from Buford Dam on the north to Chattahoochee Bend State Park on the south and aims to reimagine the region’s relationship to the river and create a vision for the future.

Saturday’s forum will showcase informational stations featuring different aspects of the plan such as the design and engagement process, narratives about the history and role of the Chattahoochee River, partners involved in the Chattahoochee Working Group, an interactive map, and more. Attendees will be encouraged to draw and comment on the map, share information about their favorite parts of the river, and suggest opportunities for improvement.

Updates to the Plan

Following months of research, guidance from key stakeholders, and input from people who have attended public forums held throughout the summer, three potential approaches have emerged:

  • Path of Least Resistance
  • Path of Least Ecological Impact
  • A Network of Destinations

Learn more about each—and be sure to come to Saturday’s public forum; registration is encouraged.
