Don’t blink. You might miss another bike-ped trail being built in metro Atlanta.
In fact, multi-use paths are coming online so fast, it can be hard to keep up. ARC is here to help!
The agency has developed a mapping resource – we call it a Regional Active Transportation Inventory – that makes it easy to find existing trails and even see what paths are in the planning stages.
The interactive map is meant as a resource for planning professionals, elected officials, and others regional leaders who are working to expand and knit together the region’s bike-ped network.
But it provides a wealth of information for anyone interested in the region’s bike-ped future – or just looking for a new place to ride.
The data can be quickly sorted by trail name, type (that is, whether it’s a shared-use path, side path, bike lane, or paved, mutli-use), location (city or county), and even by length. And the color-coded map visuals are customizable, able to show existing facilities, those that are planned, or both.
At a glance, you can see that major gaps in the region’s network will be filled, making it possible for someone to bike all the way from Stone Mountain to the Alabama line. It promises to be one of the largest bike-ped networks in the country.
The region’s long-range Metropolitan Transportation Plan, which is managed by ARC, invests $3.9 billion through 2050 to expand metro Atlanta’s bike-ped network.
Major projects scheduled in the next four years include the southwest and northwest portions of the Atlanta Beltline, Path 400 multi-use trail along Georgia 400, the Chattahoochee River Greenway Trail in Douglas County, and a pilot segment in Cobb County of the planned Chattahoochee Riverlands regional trail network.
Our planners are also asking for help identifying any trails we may have missed. Just drop us an email at bikeped@atlantaregional.org
What’s Next ATL, produced by the Atlanta Regional Commission, is a community resource that explores how metro Atlanta is growing and changing, and how the region is addressing its most pressing challenges.
