It’s clear that climate change is one of the most pressing issues facing metro Atlanta.
Now, the Atlanta Regional Commission is working to address this challenge by developing the Metro Atlanta Climate Action Plan, or MACAP, the region’s first comprehensive plan of its kind. The plan is being funded by a Climate Pollution Reduction Grant from the federal EPA.
Think of the MACAP as a roadmap to create a more sustainable and healthier future for all of us, while identifying steps needed to move toward the federal target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Of course, this is a highly complex challenge. The climate action plan will focus on key strategies that can make a real difference in our region.
This means more options for people to walk, bike, or take public transportation. Making buildings more energy efficient. Increasing use of renewable energy sources like solar. And protecting and restoring natural lands.
The planning work is already underway, with a planned completion in late 2025.
Our process will be highly collaborative. We will work closely with local governments, community based organizations, and other regional partners.
And we also need to hear from you! ARC is getting out into communities across the region and has created other opportunities for residents and stakeholders to engage.
