A well-maintained and functioning transportation network is critical for the Atlanta region. That’s why 59% of the total $172.6 billion of transportation funding slated to be invested in the Atlanta region through 2050 will be used for maintenance and modernization of the existing system. Typical investments include resurfacing roads, repairing and replacing aging bridges and upgrading transit vehicles. These projects will improve safety, trip reliability and system resiliency.
The Atlanta region also has other tools in place that are designed to ease congestion and improve safety, such as electronic road signs that warn drivers of problems ahead, traffic signal synchronization, and Highway Emergency Response Operators (HERO) teams that assist stranded motorists and clear accidents.
