As part of its Livable Communities (external link) initiative, the American Association of Retired People (AARP) recently released its 2018 Livability Index (external link) results. The highest level indicator reported in the results is the Livability Score, a value between 0 and 100 representing a combined assessment of seven broad categories: housing, neighborhood, transportation, environment, health, engagement, and opportunity. The score is calculated using data at the neighborhood (census block, block group, tract, or high school district), city, county, and metro levels. The score is then reported at the neighborhood, city, county, and state level to help bring attention to issues affecting the livability of communities.
