ARC Accepting Public Comment on Amendment 4 to the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan / FY 2024-2027 Transportation Improvement Program

The Atlanta Regional Commission is accepting public comment through April 16, 2025, on a proposed amendment to the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) / FY 2024-2027 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). A public hearing will take place on Friday, April 4, during a meeting of ARC’s Transportation Coordinating Committee.

The amendment is required to reflect cost increases, changes to project timelines, and new projects that are exempt from air quality requirements, which include remaining projects funded through the 2024 TIP solicitation process.

The Amendment is scheduled to be considered the ARC Board and Transportation & Air Quality Committee in May.

The amendment includes cost increases totaling $207 million at 25 projects across the Atlanta region. Projects include:

• Cost estimate adjustments to:
  • I-75 Commercial Vehicle Lanes in Henry County
  • SR 20 (Cumming Highway/Knox Bridge Highway) Widening in Cherokee County
  • Upper Riverdale Road Bridge Upgrade in Clayton County
  • SR 13 (Peters Street) Bridge Replacement in City of Atlanta
• Projects that are exempt for air quality review include:
  • 2024 TIP Solicitation
    • Peachtree Safe Street project (City of Atlanta/Midtown Alliance)
    • Marietta Boulevard Safe Street project (City of Atlanta)
  • Federal Recreational Trail Program
    • Rivers Edge Trail extension (Clayton County)
    • Chattahoochee RiverLands Recreational Trail and Riverview Trailhead (City of Smyrna)
    • Wheel Beautiful – Riverlands Scenic Universal Access Trail (City of Chattahoochee Hills)

ARC serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for all or parts of 19 counties in metro Atlanta and is charged with developing the short-term TIP and long-term MTP to improve mobility and provide better quality of life in the Atlanta region.

The Transportation Improvement Program is the mechanism by which federal, state, and local funds are approved for all significant surface transportation projects and programs in the region The TIP is updated several times throughout the year, as projects change or new funding becomes available.
