ARC Board Adopts Amendment to the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan / FY 2024-2027 Transportation Improvement Program

The Atlanta Regional Commission Board today adopted an amendment to the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) / FY 2024-2027 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) that programs more than $1 billion in federal funds for 123 projects across the Atlanta region.

The amendment includes $84 million in funds from previously awarded federal discretionary grants and $165 million in federal funds from the 2024 TIP solicitation process. Key projects include:

Funded by Federal Discretionary Grants

• PowerUp Atlanta program, which will install 50 electric vehicle chargers at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (City of Atlanta, Charging and Fueling Infrastructure grant).
• Reconnecting Scott Boulevard Complete Street Plan (City of Decatur, RAISE grant).

Funded through 2024 TIP Solicitation Process

• Right-of-way funds for Clairmont Road (SR 155) intersection Improvement at North Druid Hills Road (DeKalb County)
• Preliminary engineering and construction funds for Kensington TOD Phase 1 (MARTA)
• Preliminary engineering funds for SR 372 (Birmingham Highway) intersection improvements at Batesville Road and New Bullpen Road (City of Milton)
• Preliminary engineering funds for Noonday Creek Trail Extension from Bells Ferry Trailhead and Shallowford Road at north end of Noonday Creek Park (Cobb County)
• Preliminary engineering funds for Sandy Creek Road/Sams Drive/Eastin Road intersection improvement (Fayette County)
• Roadway resurfacing projects in Clayton County (countywide) and Henry County (Jonesboro Road)
• Construction funds for the City of Peachtree Corners Innovation District Multi-Use Trail Phase 2 (City of Peachtree Corners)
• Construction funds for the CHC Regional Greenway Trail – Douglas County Extension Phase I (Douglas County)

Funded Through Other Federal Sources

• SR 124 widening from Ronald Reagan Parkway to Sugarloaf Parkway (Gwinnett County)
• Bridge replacement – Old Alabama Road at Johns Creek Tributary (City of Johns Creek)

ARC serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for all or parts of 19 counties in metro Atlanta and is charged with developing the short-term TIP and long-term MTP to improve mobility and provide better quality of life in the Atlanta region.

The Transportation Improvement Program is the mechanism by which federal, state, and local funds are approved for all significant surface transportation projects and programs in the region The TIP is updated several times throughout the year, as projects change or new funding becomes available.
