ARC’s Katherine Zitsch Receives 2020 G. Warren Fuller Award for Distinguished Service

Atlanta — Aug 05, 2020

Katherine Zitsch, Director of the Natural Resources Group at the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), has been named the 2020 recipient of the G. Warren Fuller Award from the American Water Works Association. This award, inspired by George Warren Fuller, who was an engineer responsible for key innovations in water and wastewater development, is given annually by the Georgia Section of the American Water Works Association to one member for distinguished service to the water supply field.

Zitsch also serves as the Managing Director of the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District, and has led the District’s efforts to work with utilities to drive down water usage through innovative steps such as a toilet rebate program and a regional water loss control and reduction program.

Zitsch has also provided leadership and support to bring water use to the forefront of the conversation among government, business, agricultural, and industry leaders across the region and across the state. And she is a tireless supporter of the rights and responsibilities of Georgia residents and businesses to use water wisely and equitably. As such, she has led countless conversations about what more can be done to reduce water use while educating leaders on this critical resource that we can’t take for granted.

“The George Warren Fuller Award was envisaged to honor someone with sound engineering skill, brilliant diplomatic talent, and constructive leadership,” said Glenn Page, Chairman of the District and General Manager of the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority. “All three of these qualities and more epitomize the exemplary career of Katherine Zitsch, and I’m thrilled to see her honored with this esteemed award.”

Katherine Zitsch has served as Managing Director of the Natural Resources group at ARC since January 2013. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the work of the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District, the 15-county water planning agency for Metropolitan Atlanta. The District works with local governments, water and wastewater utilities, and stakeholders to develop comprehensive Water Supply and Conservation, Wastewater Management, and Watershed Management Plans for the region (www.northgeorgiawater.org).

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Systems Engineering, both from Clemson University. She is a Board Certified Environmental Engineer through the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.
