Atlanta — Apr 03, 2026

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) will host a Regional Housing Summit for metro Atlanta leaders on Thursday, April 30 at the Gas South District Conference Center in Duluth, Ga. The summit is designed to inform the development of a strategic regional housing plan that will address metro Atlanta’s growing housing affordability challenges.

During the summit, about 200 leaders representing diverse backgrounds and expertise will break into five working groups covering the following topics:

  • Connecting housing to jobs and transit
  • Setting and tracking local housing goals
  • Innovative strategies for land and housing
  • Funding housing across the region
  • Strategies for housing stability and homelessness prevention

“Metro Atlanta’s housing challenges have been well-documented and long discussed. It’s time to move from talk to action. The Regional Housing Summit is a key step in this journey that will foster meaningful change,” said Anna Roach, ARC Executive Director & CEO.

Housing affordability has become a major challenge in the Atlanta region. Housing costs, both rental and ownership, have been rising faster than wages, threatening metro Atlanta’s economic competitiveness and quality of life. Housing affordability was identified as the number one concern in ARC’s most recent Metro Atlanta Speaks survey, ahead of traffic and the economy.

ARC is working with community partners to develop a Housing Strategy for the Atlanta Region that will establish a shared vision for housing in the region, outline the steps needed to get there, and develop regional tools to track progress and results. The plan will be developed utilizing data and scenario analysis to determine what types of housing need to be built or preserved to meet current and future demand, who those homes need to serve, and where housing investments will have the greatest impact.

When completed later this year, the Housing Strategy will guide action across the 11-county Atlanta region. The plan’s goals include:

  • Producing more housing at attainable price points
  • Preserving existing affordable housing
  • Providing stability by helping residents remain safely housed and connected to jobs and services
