The Atlanta Regional Commission’s Land Use Coordinating Committee meeting on Dec. 17 will feature an Call For Projects Ideas Exchange designed for local governments and nonprofits interested in applying for a Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) grant or seeking to participate in the Community Development Assistance Program (CDAP).
These two programs are designed to help provide planning and technical support to metro Atlanta communities that want to improve quality of life for their residents.
The virtual event includes:
- An overview of the LCI and CDAP programs
- Small breakout sessions to discuss communities’ most pressing resiliency and equity issues
- A presentation from Suzanne Burnes, Just Growth Director with the Partnership for Southern Equity, and Kimberly Smith, Planning and Community Development Director with the City of East Point, on the development of the Equitable Growth & Inclusion Strategic Plan and creation of the East Point Leaders for Equity Academy.
- A presentation by Alexandria McBride, Chief Resilience Officer for the City of Oakland, on the intersection of equity and resiliency through Oakland’s EcoBlock program.
ARC will begin seeking applications for the LCI and CDAP programs in January 2021.

About the Livable Centers Initiative
The Atlanta Regional Commission’s Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) is a grant program that incentivizes local jurisdictions to re-envision their communities as vibrant, walkable places that offer increased mobility options, encourage healthy lifestyles and provide improved access to jobs and services. Since 2000, the LCI program has invested $254 million in over 120 communities throughout the Atlanta region, helping pay for planning studies and the construction of transportation projects, such as sidewalks and intersection improvements, to bring those visions to life.
About the Community Development Assistance Program
The Community Development Assistance Program (CDAP) provides planning and technical support to metro Atlanta communities that seek to improve quality of life for local residents. This includes access to healthy food, housing affordability, and workforce development. Projects are chosen based on staff capacity and priority issues such as creative placemaking, green infrastructure and historic preservation.
The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is the official planning agency for the 10-county Atlanta Region, including Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, and Rockdale counties as well as the City of Atlanta and 73 other cities.
