Atlanta — Sep 16, 2024
The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is accepting public comment as part of its application for the HUD Pathways to Removing Obstacles (PRO) housing grant. This competitive grant allocates funds to identify and remove barriers to affordable housing production and preservation
ARC is seeking public comment from local elected officials, housing stakeholders, community members, and other interested parties. The deadline to submit a comment is noon on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024. To make public comment, send an email to kallin@atlantaregional.org or call (470) 378-1636.
A public hearing will be held on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. The hearing will be held both online (registration required) and in person at ARC offices (229 Peachtree Street NE, Suite 100, Atlanta, 30303 in the Emerson Bryan room).
ARC is seeking the HUD PRO housing grant to support local governments in the 11-county Atlanta region that have demonstrated progress and commitment to overcoming housing barriers. Grant funding will support efforts to increase housing production and reduce housing costs.
ARC’s grant proposal seeks to address the region’s affordable housing challenges by:
Providing adequate and flexible funding at the city and county level for land and housing.
Identifying and activating vacant land owned by local governments, faith-based organizations and others.
Establishing and expanding land banks to acquire, hold, and transfer properties for community benefit and to activate targeted properties for affordable housing.
Leveraging community land trusts and shared-equity partnerships, and other models for permanent affordability to address the loss of affordable units and provide community control over housing needs.
Providing research, resource development, and education to implement housing solutions.
