The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) Board today unanimously re-elected Kerry Armstrong to serve a third two-year term as chairman.
Armstrong, a commercial real estate executive, has served on the ARC board since 2008 as a citizen member representing a district that includes portions of Gwinnett County. His third term will begin on Jan. 1, 2018.
“I’m honored by the show of confidence from my fellow board members,” said Armstrong. “I look forward to working with them and with ARC’s dedicated, talented staff to continue making the Atlanta region an even better place to live, work, and play.”
Under Armstrong’s leadership, ARC has focused on working with its regional partners to tackle collaborative projects, such as the Aerotropolis Atlanta Alliance, which aims to revitalize the area around Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and Learn4Life, a regional education initiative.
Also during Armstrong’s tenure as chairman, the ARC Board adopted the Atlanta Region’s Plan, a long-range blueprint designed to ensure metro Atlanta’s future success and improve the region’s quality of life. The 25-year plan includes a range of investments and programmatic efforts to provide the region with world class infrastructure, livable communities, and a competitive economy.
“A few years ago, the ARC board set a more strategic and collaborative course for ARC,” said Doug Hooker, ARC Executive Director. “Under Chairman Armstrong’s leadership, we have surpassed our own expectations. Thanks to his dedication and passion for the Atlanta region, ARC is now driving conversations and actions that will shape our region for decades to come.”
During Armstrong’s next two-year term, ARC will begin to conduct the research and community outreach necessary to update the Atlanta Region’s Plan and will continue to foster dialogue across the region that could lead to collaborative solutions to critical regional challenges.
Prior to being elected chairman in 2013, Armstrong co-chaired the Atlanta Regional Workforce Board, which serves seven of the region’s 10 counties, and served on ARC’s Environment & Land Use and Executive committees.
Armstrong, managing director/development partner with Pope & Land Enterprises, also is actively involved in numerous civic, educational and charitable organizations. He is the chair of the North Fulton Community Improvement District and serves as director and past chair of the Council for Quality Growth. He is a director and past chair of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and a director for the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, and also serves on the board of the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation.
