Atlanta — Dec 21, 2020

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) has adopted a new schedule for its Board of Directors and standing committees that will take effect in January 2021. The changes are designed to streamline operations while supporting board engagement on the critical issues facing the Atlanta region.

Highlights include:

  • The ARC Board will meet at 1:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of January, March, May, July, September, and December.
  • When possible, key committees will meet on the same day as the full board to maximize efficiency.
  • The board’s Governance Committee will assume additional responsibilities and will meet monthly, on the second Wednesday of each month.

More details can be found in ARC’s 2021 year-at-a-glance calendar.

“These changes will help the ARC Board better focus its energies on addressing the challenges our region faces and improving quality of life across this dynamic, fast-growing region,” said ARC Board Chairman Kerry Armstrong.

Changes to the board’s schedule were recommended by ARC’s Board Engagement Task Force in late 2019 and were adopted by the Board at its February 2020 meeting. The board updated its bylaws on Dec. 2 to enable the new schedule to take effect as of January 1, 2021.

The Board Engagement Task Force consisted of members of the ARC Board and of the ARC staff who together studied how to streamline the board meeting calendar and provide new ways for board members to engage on regional issues.
