(ATLANTA – Mar 07, 2016)

Dan Reuter, manager of the Atlanta Regional Commission’s (ARC) Community Development Division, has been named to the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) College of Fellows, the planning profession’s highest honor.

Mr. Reuter joined ARC in 1999 after working for local governments across Georgia, including Athens-Clarke County and Savannah-Chatham County. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Georgia Tech’s School City & Regional Planning.

At ARC, Mr. Reuter helped create the award-winning Livable Centers Initiative, a grant program that helps local communities transform into more vibrant, walkable places with improved access to transportation options, jobs and services.

Mr. Reuter also helped launch the Atlanta Regional Housing Forum and has served as president of the Georgia Planning Association and head of the Regional and Intergovernmental Planning Division of the American Planning Association.

“Dan is one of the nation’s foremost experts on urban planning and community development,” said Doug Hooker, ARC Executive Director. “Metro Atlanta is fortunate to have someone of his caliber working every day to improve our region’s quality of life.”

Mr. Reuter is one of 61 fellows who will be inducted at the American Planning Association’s National Planning Conference in Phoenix on April 3.

The fellowship is granted to planners who have achieved excellence in professional practice, teaching, mentoring, research, public service and leadership, and who have had a positive, enduring impact on the planning profession.

“Individuals who make up the College of Fellows are the true leaders of the planning profession,” said AICP President Valerie Hubbard. “They have made lasting contributions to the profession and have inspired generations of new planners. They are truly awe-inspiring.”

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is the official planning agency for the 10-county Atlanta Region, including Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties as well as the City of Atlanta and 70 other cities. The Atlanta Regional Commission serves as a catalyst for regional progress by focusing leadership, attention and planning resources on key regional issues.
