Overview

ARC’s Community Planning Academy is pleased to offer Economic Development 101, a foundational training module designed to assist planners and community stakeholders with their understanding of economic development (ED). Planning is paramount to the success of ED, and the same is true of ED’s importance in planning. By exploring ED-related goals, tools, and activities, we’ll find common ground and opportunities to better link planning and ED efforts together.

This virtual half-day course includes economic development fundamentals, practical information, a range of speakers, and opportunities for discussion. We’ll begin with an introduction and discussion of different types of ED and why they matter, followed by conversations around ED’s benefits to communities. The second half of the training will include a review of ED tools and breakout sessions where ED professionals will share the processes they follow to land projects and make them happen. We’ll wrap up with a discussion on the active role the planning community can take to shape ED goals and support ED projects.

We look forward to seeing you there!
