Councilmember Bakhtiari serves as the Atlanta City Council representative on the ARC Board.

A life-long Atlantan, she was elected in 2021 to represent District 5. Bakhtiari has consistently championed efforts on homelessness, affordable housing, legal representation for evictees, upgraded infrastructure, climate resilience, and healthcare for all.
She serves on the city council’s zoning committee, city utilities committee, and the committee on council and has been named among Atlanta Magazine’s 500 Most Powerful Leaders, Out Georgia’s Leader of the Year and the Georgia Voice’s Person of the Year. Liliana is a 2023 David Bohnett Fellow at Harvard’s Kennedy School where she received a certificate in public policy. She graduated from Georgia State University in 2024 with a bachelor’s in Anthropology.
The daughter of Iranian immigrants, Bakhtiari is the first nonbinary councilmember in Atlanta and is Georgia’s first out queer Muslim elected official. She is committed to building a community defined by equity, joy, and collective care.
