Chair Van Ness is the first woman elected to chair the Rockdale County Commission. She served two terms on the commission before being elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2015, representing parts of Rockdale, Newton, and DeKalb counties. She is the CEO of Peachtree Academy and Peachtree Prep, private schools that she helped establish in Conyers and Covington.
A fourth-generation Rockdale native, Chair Van Ness held leadership positions with Rockdale Emergency Relief, the Rockdale Rotary Club, the Rockdale Republican Party, and the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. She is a graduate of Leadership Rockdale, Leadership Newton, Leadership Fayette, ARC’s Regional Leadership Institute, and the Georgia Academy for Economic Development. She earned her Bachelor’s in political science/international Relations from Auburn University. She and her husband Ken have three children and are members of Rockdale Baptist Church.
