Airport Area Planning

Aerotropolis Atlanta rendering

Since 1965 with the creation of the Airport System Plan which called for a midfield terminal and parallel runways at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), ARC has been a leader in working to ensure the airport continues to be a vibrant part of metro Atlanta’s economy.  ARC played an integral role in the development of the Aerotropolis Atlanta Alliance and continues to support this nonprofit organization to help develop a vibrant “Aerotropolis” around the world’s busiest airport and serves as a catalyst for economic development and investment.

The airport is a primary driver of metro Atlanta’s economy. But until now, no collaborative effort has brought together the area’s many varied stakeholders under a joint vision and strategy to truly leverage the airport’s role as an economic powerhouse.

Aerotropolis Atlanta is a new vision of metro Atlanta’s southside. The goal is to transform the airport vicinity into a world-class Aerotropolis by stimulating investment and strengthening public coordination for the benefit of all Aerotropolis Atlanta stakeholders.  In 2016, ARC and the Aerotropolis Alliance created a blueprint for the development of an Aerotropolis, and in 2021 began an update to this Blueprint with funding by the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
