The Atlanta Regional Commission , working with regional transportation partners and service providers, reviews, analyzes and incorporates transit projects into the Regional Transportation Plan, which allocates federal dollars to the highest priority projects.
The Atlanta Region’s Plan, ARC’s long-range plan, includes $11.9 billion for potential transit expansion projects through 2040. Potential projects include MARTA rail service along Ga. 400, I-20 East, the Clifton Corridor and Clayton County.
While most of these are scheduled in the later years of the planning horizon, the timing could be accelerated if additional local funding sources are found, such as a dedicated sales tax for transit.
In addition, ARC staffs the Regional Transit Committee (RTC), which focuses on issues of regional transit planning, funding and governance and guides the implementation of Concept 3, the long-range transit vision for the Atlanta region.
Regional Transit Vision
Concept3 is the Atlanta region’s long-range transit vision. Originally adopted in 2008 and updated in 2012, Concept 3 was developed through a collaborative, multi-year effort led by the Transit Planning Board, a predecessor to today’s Regional Transit Committee
Concept 3’s expansion plan would extend transit throughout the Atlanta Region. However, only those projects actively in the planning, engineering and environmental pipeline are included in the Atlanta Region’s Plan transit vision.
An update to the region’s transit vision is scheduled for completion in 2018.
Existing Regional Transit System Data
(for web developers and transit professionals)
ARC provides data for developers and other interested parties to create applications for desktop, web or mobile devices. The table below provides access to the General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) files for the Atlanta region’s fixed route, shuttle and circulator operators. Contained in each .zip file is the Developers License Agreement. By downloading the zip file, you are agreeing to adhere to the terms and conditions of the agreement. GTFS and GIS data sets are current as of March 24, 2017.
