(ATLANTA – Jan 07, 2016)

Jane Hayse, who has served as director of the Center for Livable Communities for the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) since 2013, will retire on March 4, following a distinguished 26-year career at the regional planning agency.

Ms. Hayse, a nationally recognized leader in transportation planning and community development, joined ARC in 1989. She led the agency’s transportation planning division for 15 years before being named the first director of the Center for Livable Communities.

“Jane’s innovative thinking and dynamic leadership have moved the Atlanta region forward in the areas of transportation and community development,” said Douglas R. Hooker, ARC executive director. “She has helped ARC become one of the top regional planning agencies in the country. We thank Jane for her years of dedicated service to ARC and to the Atlanta region.”

Ms. Hayse has served in many local and national leadership positions and has received a number of awards. In 2014, the Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations honored her with the first Ronald F. Kirby Memorial Award for Outstanding Individual Leadership.

“I have been honored to work with some of the smartest, most passionate people in their fields,” said Ms. Hayse. “It has been a privilege to serve the Atlanta region for the past 26 years.”

ARC announced that Mike Alexander will succeed Ms. Hayse as director of the Center for Livable Communities following her retirement. Mr. Alexander has been with ARC since 2001 and currently serves as the manager of the Research & Analytics Division, which generates and tracks extensive data about the Atlanta region.

Mr. Alexander is a graduate of the Regional Leadership Institute and Leadership DeKalb and is a member of Leadership Atlanta’s 2016 class. He holds master’s degrees in public administration and community planning from Auburn University and is a Marine veteran who served in Desert Storm.

The Atlanta Regional Commission is the official planning agency for the 10-county Atlanta Region, including Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties as well as the City of Atlanta and 70 other cities. The Atlanta Regional Commission serves as a catalyst for regional progress by focusing leadership, attention and planning resources on key regional issues.
